State 1
Audiovisual live-improvisation, duration circa 45 minutes
by Ulf Langheinrich

remoulding, reforming matter,
changing extension, consistency, viscosity, transparency, temperature
symphonic noise, pulsating fluid textures
fields of oscillations in interference, in phase, in sync, in one vibration,
from surface to deep space,
a resonant matrix,
a deep glow
your body
you have lost everything and it will be silent around you.

“In the works of Ulf Langheinrich, contexts, social settings, gestures and meanings are of no interest. The external features have been removed from the apparatuses with which images and sounds are produced. These works are media, but without a concrete mission—nothing is visualized, nothing set to music. Interest is focused on the materiality of the media, on its physics.”

Ulf Langheinrich, born in 1960, was co-founder of the GRANULAR-SYNTHESIS duo and has been working in solo since early 2003 as a media artist and composer. For more than two decades, he has been realising international large scale projects. He was exhibited and performed among others in Amsterdam (Stedelijk Museum), Barcelona (MACBA), Berlin (Martin-Gropius-Bau), Hannover (Kunstverein), Hong Kong (Run Run Shaw Creative Media Centre), Liverpool (Liverpool Biennial), London (ICA), Lyons (MAC), Madrid (ARCO), Melbourne (ACMI), Montreal (ISEA, MAC), Moscow (Red October, Platforma), New York (Creative Time), Perth (PICA), Roma (Romaeuropa Festival, MACRO), Rotterdam (DEAF), Seoul (Incheon Digital Arts Festival, SeMA), Shanghai (Zendai MoMA, Science and Technology Museum), Taipei (Fine Arts Museum and Museum for contemporary Arts), Tokyo (ICC), Venice (Austrian Pavilion Biennale 2001), Vienna (MAK, Wien Modern) and he was “Featured Artist” at Ars Electronica 2005.
